Consumer Narrative
This complaint is regarding Chase bank, who has denied a claim regarding a fraudulent charge. - On XX/XX/year> I received a call ( anonymous ) warning me that I was about to be scammed. I assume this was for the purpose of confirming a phone number associated with the card number. I immediately saw a charge {$1200.00} from XXXX XXXX and froze my card- I called Chase fraud department. The operator pulled up the charge, noting that there had been several attempts at purchases for much larger amounts, declining until one went through successfully. - I received the temporary credit for the charge. - XXXX refunded my card. Obviously, the card was frozen/closed by then so the amount never hit my account. - The charge hit the account again on XX/XX/year> - I called the Chase claims department, who confirmed that the claim had been denied, due to lack of documentation. I inquired what documentation might be acceptable to accompany a purchase I did not make. She only repeated anything you can come with. She provided no support or additional resources. - I went immediately to my local branch. Rather than providing me with the requested banker, I sat with the very young lobby greeter while she called the banker support line and received the same information. Because I have purchased a plane ticket with XXXX before, they dont believe it is unusual activity. - Chase is unable to provide a copy of the statement including the previously confirmed multiple declined charges, and somehow the Claims department either didnt look at this, or didnt find it suspicious. A second call to fraud and their debit specialist who are unable to grant me access to this information regarding my own account. - I sent Chase a transcript copy of a chat with XXXX, who confirmed that a change was made to the ticket on a card that is not my own, along with paperwork confirming the whole transaction, including a full refund. - The fax was never received. I have tried three times, most recently XX/XX/XXXX, at two different branches, one banker accompanying the fax with an email as well. The documents are never received, and any time I call, they are at a complete loss of what to do. I am out of ideas. This is a sizeable charge that I did not make. Not that it matters, but I only fly XXXX in the direst of circumstances, as they have burned me multiple times in various ways. They are the absolute worst company my scammer could choose for me to do battle with. Please look into this thoroughly, including the super-secret records of the various declines leading up to the purchase. Obviously, I would be aware that my debit card wouldnt support charges of those size. XXXX can do nothing further, they have processed the refund, and say it is now up to my financial institution. This is now theft on the part of Chase bank.
