On XX/XX/XXXX, I entered Citibank for routine bank services which XXXX has provided for me many times in the past, and was turned away by two employees at two separate banches. These employees behaved in an unprofessional manner. The staff and bank branches are as follows : XXXX XXXX XXXX ID : XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, NY XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ID : XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. XXXX XXXX, NY XXXX Songwriters recieving royalties from overseas, who wish to avoid being taxed in the XXXX, and then taxed again when their royalties are sent to the US, are required to submit forms stamped by their bank, so their royalties can be processed. A long-standing tax treaty exists between XXXX countries and the US to allow songwriters to be exempted from being double-taxed on royalties. Banks are required by law to provide this service upon request of their clients, provided the forms are in order and the customer is a XXXX citizen, such as myself. Despite Citibank stamping my forms as recently as XXXX, not a single individual I spoke with would provide me with this routine service. Customer service was also an absolute dead end, and when I resorted to sending the forms to the fax number of the branches, connections were abruptly terminated and I recieved XXXX replies. It is illegal to withhold services from a customer for no reason. This service is not granted as some kind of courtesy from the bank, but is an integral part of commercial banking. Both employees seemed to lack training in how to handle this basic request, would not complete the task themselves, and could not find anyone else to assist me, neither via phone nor at the branch itself. I was treated dismissively, and was forced to return home with no resolution, missing the deadline to submit my forms. All messages I left subsequently, requesting assistance, went unanswered. After reading thousands of complaints against Citibank, my household began moving the bulk of our modest deposits to another bank. This last disgraceful incident indicates we were right to do so. To treat a customer like a criminal trying to pull a scam, when they are trying to conduct completely ligitimate business, displays extreme prejudice to creative professionals struggling to make ends meet. I must now wait till the next royalty distribution to try again, but I don't believe Citibank will respond and I am hesitant to make the 4 hour round trip into XXXX only to be turned away again.
