On Thursday, XX/XX/year> around XXXX I made a purchase at XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX Missouri XXXX in the beauty/cosmetics section. I asked the person at checkout ( XXXX ) to look up my JCPenney store card to put the purchase on it. She proceeds to tell me that my card is expired and that she needs to update my information. I specifically said this is only updating my information, correct? I do not want to apply for a new card. I said this 3 times to confirm that I was not applying for a new card and she reassured me this was just updating my old account and card ( my XXXX XXXX XXXX son was standing there and heard the whole conversation ). I am currently in the process of applying for a mortgage loan and do NOT want any more inquiries made to my credit report. I am very disappointed and aggravated that this girl did in fact apply me for a new credit card WITHOUT my consent and lied about doing so. I called the JCPenney Credit Card Customer Service line to which a lady named XXXX ( around XXXX once I received an Email notification that I had a new credit inquiry to my credit report ) said she put in a request to take the inquiry off my credit report. I also called and spoke to the XXXX of the XXXX XXXX in XXXX, MO to inform her of what happened. She said she would speak to the associate ( XXXX ) and all her associates to make sure that does not happen again. I do not want this affecting my XXXX XXXX.
