Consumer Narrative
I have a Bank of America XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. I was given an offer for a 0 % balance transfer so I used it to transfer {$2300.00} towards my XXXX. My minimum payment on my Bank of America card was {$25.00} and set to autopay probably for a year now. On XX/XX/year> the {$25.00} autopay was taken out of my account, but then on XX/XX/year> {$2300.00} was taken out of my checking account to pay for the transfer without my permission. I wasn't given a notice. I didn't change anything in my payment settings. When I double-checked to make sure my auto payment was the same and to see if I missed anything, nothing had changed. On screenshots of my payments, the {$2300.00} didn't appear on the list of payments, except for on the pdf bill statement. When I asked in customer service chat what happened she said, " ... After reviewing the account, I see you have 2 payments set up. I can delete the XXXX XXXX payment for you so that you can make and manage payments through XXXX XXXX only. Would you like me to complete that request? '' I said yes. I also asked why doesn't that payment appear in my list of payments? I don't see that I had a direct debit payment set up. I never changed anything. The customer service rep said, " That is an older method of payment that is managed by a bank associate. You will only see the debit. There is no way to view or manage the payments online. '' I never did this. I never permitted for them to do this. This sounds unethical that they can just make this decision. Fortunately, I was able to pay it. But I would like them to be held accountable in case they try to do this to someone else who can't pay. What is the point of a transfer offer if they are going to take it right out anyway and without permission?
