Consumer Narrative

I'm including text from a letter I sent to Bank of America about this problem : The charge of {$7.00} from XXXX XXXX is from a fraudulent merchant posing as a legitimate business. I have canceled multiple Bank of America VISA cards because this bogus charge keeps appearing on my statements. The issue has repeated itself for several months where I notice the charge, report it as fraud, my card is canceled, I receive a new card, and the charge reappears. I want to point out several arguments that support my conclusion that this is a fraudulent merchant perpetuating a scam. 1. On the enclosed copy of the transaction from my account, I have highlighted the merchant information I believe is bogus. a. The string of text that appears at the top of the transaction is not a valid business entity or world wide web address. XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX There is a legitimate business called XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX b. The string of text that appears on the transaction after the heading Merchant Information is fictitious. iXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. The text that appears under the heading Merchant name is fictitious. XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX The address that appears under the heading Merchant info is a physical location in the state of Texas XXXX but a search on XXXX XXXX reveals what appears to be a vacant office building. I have enclosed a print out of what XXXX showed in my search of that address. 2. I have enclosed a copy of an email that appears to be a phishing attempt. The sender does have my email address and the last four digits of the latest credit card I received from Bank of America. This is after I canceled my prior credit card where I reported the exact same issue. But there are several problematic concerns. a. The name that appears at the top of the page is the subject from the printed email. It says that my XXXX, XXXX subscription will renew soon. i. I do not have any subscriptions from the legitimate organization named XXXX. ii. The text is yet another configuration of a fictitious imitation of the legitimate organization. b. The string of text that appears in the From : heading on the email is bogus. i. It shows : XXXX, XXXX ( XXXX ) c. In the body of the email there is additional phony information. i. The string of text suggesting how to reach the support site is : XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, rings to a destination where a person answers and their language mimics what you would expect to hear from a legitimate support center, but they offered no help and only asked me for additional personal information before I became suspicious and ended the call.
