On XX/XX/24, I deposited my first payroll check from a new job at the ( XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX for {$1200.00} through the mobile app for USAA where I have a checking account. The check is clearly marked " XXXX XXXX ''. A hold was placed on all the funds except {$200.00}. I knew the app could not determine that it's a payroll check so I used the chat function and advised a live agent that it's a payroll check and that I knew holds are not permitted on payroll checks. My attempts to have the hold removed were denied. Approximately 1-2 hours later, I called their XXXX number and spoke to an agent and again advised that the deposit was my payroll check and clearly marked. My request to have the hold removed was again denied and was told because my balance is low and that they could not verify the funds with the for the check. Given the current state of increasing costs of everything and people struggling to pay their bills, I find this action in extremely poor taste and bad business. I do have a direct deposit order in place with my job, however I'm strongly considering changing that direct deposit request to another institution.
