Consumer Narrative
I resided at XXXX XXXX with XXXX XXXX in XXXX FL, from XX/XX/XXXX until XX/XX/XXXX. In XX/XX/XXXX I signed a roommate release and was officially released from the lease in XXXX of XXXX and XXXX was left as the sole renter of the property. When the lease was up for renewal in XX/XX/XXXX XXXX signed a month to month lease with the property that was terminated in XX/XX/XXXX. When XXXX left the property, the XXXX XXXX balance that he owed was sent to collections and added to both of our credits. I submitted the necessary information to begin a dispute process to get this removed from my credit as it was not my balance to begin with. Eventually the collection was removed from my credit and I thought everything was well. On XX/XX/XXXX I applied to rent an apartment with my XXXX and our application came back denied due to the balance that was still on my account from XXXX XXXX. We knew that the balance was not mine but we could not find any proof of me being released from the lease nor could XXXX XXXX find the signed roommate release. We decided to pay the balance of XXXX XXXX on XX/XX/XXXX, in order to expedite our process with renting this new property as we were on the verge of homelessness. On XX/XX/XXXX, we found a document that was proof of my name not being on the lease at the time. We reached out to XXXX XXXX, and on XX/XX/XXXX, they provided us with a document stating my dates of residence and that I do not owe a balance. I reached out to IQ Data Inc to explain the situation and request a refund. On my first conversation with them I was told that I needed to contact the rental company so that they can release me from the debt and a refund would be received within 14 business days. I called XXXX XXXX and they explained that they do not have the ability to do that once the debt has been sent to collection. I called IQ Data Inc again and this time they said I need to email their dispute team with my evidence and I will hear a response within two weeks. My wife sent an email on my behalf on XX/XX/XXXX with the necessary information. After both hearing anything back for two weeks I called again and was told that it could take up to 60 days for the dispute to be processed. On XX/XX/XXXX I called again and was told that the dispute was received but it have not started the investigation. I asked for a timeframe and I was told it will happen when it happens. I have not heard back from IQ Data since then.
