Consumer Narrative

I had been looking on XXXX to rent a house in XXXX, Arizona for XX/XX/XXXX. A reply was received from the homeowner that the house was booked for my dates. Later on the same date, XXXX XX/XX/XXXX, I received a reply from the same person " XXXX, Please read my answer in the attachment of this message as I have great news for you. '' Signed, XXXX who is the homeowner. The attachment was as follows " Dear XXXX, I have great news for you but more information, booking process, discounts, and further details please contact me only directly by email XXXX I did not give this a second thought as I know owners will sometimes book off the XXXX website and offer better deals or discounts. All of the correspondence I received was then via email, including a request to send a money transfer for the home 's cost for XXXX. That cost was {$3300.00} and the wire transfer was done to Bank of America in XXXX, Texas. After the wire transfer was received, I then received via email all the necessary documents that showed my booking contract, Rental booking form, and payment complete. Just in the last few days, I have begun to feel uneasy about this transaction, especially as I search within XXXX and see the reminders about not paying off site. Today I reached out to the homeowner with questions. She states our last communication was when she told me the home was not available. She had never heard anything else from me, nor did she receive any money from me. I immediately knew I had been scammed. My financial institution, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, ND, told me they could not do anything, since in essence, this was a cash transaction, and it was gone. I still had the address of the Bank of America in XXXX, Texas where the money went. I then called there and was given a phone number for the Bank of America Fraud Department When I phoned them, because I do not have a Bank of America account, they stated they could not help me. I did have the account number of where the money went, and I asked if they could tell me if the account was still open. That was the only information they could provide, and it is still open. I do have all the documentation that I received from this person, that was very official looking with the XXXX letterhead. I am devastated and at the very least, would hope to have this Bank of America account flagged, as you can be sure other fraudulent money has been heading that way. I don't know what else I can do other than file a police report. I have not attached documents because I am XXXX years old and not very tech savvy. I do have things to show/share via another media such as email, if needed.
