On XX/XX/2023 received an email that a wire transfer in the amount of {$5000.00} was in process. The bank was called immediately and the wire transfer reported as fraudulent, however the bank continued with the transfer. We figured out the account had been accessed electronically following an elaborate identity theft operation involving a stolen home phone number and mail diversion. Because the bank was not able to retrieve the funds, they have denied the request to return the {$5000.00}. This does not seem reasonable since the fraud was immediately reported and the bank never should have finalized the transaction.
