Consumer Narrative
Received email notification from Bank of America that there was a new application related to my name/social security number. There were several emails and I received them beginning at XXXXXXXX XXXX EST on XX/XX/2023. I looked up the fraud department number on the BofA website and contacted them at XXXX EST on XX/XX/2023. I verified my information and it was confirmed by BofA rep XXXX that an account had been opened using my information. He emailed me something related to fraud protection and advised that he was closing the fraudulent account. I thanked him and then I was placed on hold. I waited on hold for approximately XXXX minutes. I then spoke to BofA rep XXXX who once again verified my information, but advised that the account was NOT closed and that she was taking steps to actually close the account. XXXX not sure how someone was able to successfully open a bank account in my name without the emailed confirmation code, nor the correct address. I am also still not confident that the fraudulent account has truly been cancelled by Bank of America.
