Consumer Narrative
In 2022, there was a fraudulent savings account opened in my maiden name, at Bank of America. I had the account closed and froze my credit, as well as put a fraud alert out on my social security number. Just yesterday I received an email from Bank of America about a credit card application with them. I did not apply for any credit card. Since I have a credit freeze, the card was not opened. I did call them to make sure the application was reported as fraud. The strange part is with both the savings account and the credit card, both my real email and address were used. I am starting to worry that it is the Bank opening unauthorized accounts rather than identity theft.
