My mother who is elderly ( 80 ) and I own a joint checking account with Bank of America. My mother was the victim of a check washing scam sometime between XXXX and XXXX of 2022 wherein a check written and mailed to a catalogue company was altered and cashed for an amount of approximately {$6100.00}. On or around XX/XX/2022 I noticed the fraud and immediately made a police report to the XXXX XXXX Police Department and contacted the Bank. On or around XX/XX/2022 my mother went into her local branch with a photocopy of the check and signed a notarized document reporting the fraud and requesting her funds to be returned. All of her claim paperwork was retained by the branch and was allegedly faxed. She was told these matters can take up to 90 days to resolve. On XX/XX/2022 she contacted the Bank fraud unit as was told they " never received her paperwork '' and nothing has been done on her claim. The Bank is now telling her she needs to go back into the branch and resubmit her claim. She was never contacted at any point by the Bank regarding the missing paperwork. No one picks up the phone at the local branch. My mother is in ill health and should not have to return to the bank to repeat this process.
