Like many others my husband and I were given the run around by carrington during the pandemic. We got behind on our mortgage and did the forebearance. I was told that at the end of the forebearance we would just have our past due balance put on the back side of the loan with no late payment upfront, no extra fees, no late fees, no lawyer fees, no negatives on our credit reports, and no need for refinance. They told us they were here to help us get through it. We were almost a year out before we were able to make payments again. Then we go to make a payment to find that they wont allow us to pick up where we left off. We were locked out of our online account, unable to get information, received foreclosure notices. The. We finally got them to talk to us and they let us apply for a refinance. They allowed it to go through, but now we owe more than we did originally. Weve had the loan for over 12 years now started off around XXXX and now we owe over XXXX. Then they tacked on over XXXX in fees we arent able to pay after saying they wouldnt add fees. Sure they lowered our interest rate by around XXXX XXXX but we still owe more than our original buying price. Our loan has been sold multiple times before landing with carrington, which means our information has been sold as well and now we are going to have to pay everything weve already paid off again all because we were lied to. My husbands credit was drug through the mud because of this even though they said it wouldnt be affected at all. Ive called multiple times and been told by a few that it would drop off after 2 months of consistent payments. Well weve paid for 6 months straight now and its still showing bad marks against his credit. We tried to refinance our truck loan to lower our payment and cant even do that because our bank wont help us until we are showing 1 year good with payments with them or until they drop the negative marks on his credit. We are still recovering from the damage the pandemic did on our finances. Carrington is doing something illegal to everyone who needed help during this pandemic and giving false information and put us and many other in a bad spot because of it. They either need to dissolve our loan and take ownership of the property without any legal recourse or more credit recourse or they need to honor what we were told when we took the forebearance plan. We are struggling even more because of this company and they refuse to fix the issue.
