I opened my credit card with Bank of America in XXXX of XXXX. I made a payment over the phone with rep. in XXXX and gave her my account information. In XXXX, I made an automated payment, however, the payment did not go through because Bank of America 's system had retained and was using my closed bank account detail from XXXX. I had not had an active account with Bank of America since XXXX ( over 14 years ) and they have been retaining my detail and as a result, charged my payment to the incorrect account and then suspended my ability to pay my bills as a result. I am not aware of Bank of America making any attempt to let me know this occurred, unless they did so by contacting my email or phone from my XXXX, rather than the email and phone I would have given them at the time that I opened the account in XXXX of XXXX. When I contacted the credit card company, they told me it was my responsibility to apparently know this was their business practice and update this detail that I wasn't even aware was still in their system. Had I not attempted to set up online bill pay and instead waited until it was time to make my payment, my payment would have been late and reported to my credit.
