I have a Macy 's American Express card. I made a payment on XX/XX/XXXX for {$50.00} due by XX/XX/XXXX. My minimum payment was {$29.00}. I then made another payment of the remaining balance of {$190.00} that cleared AMEX on XX/XX/XXXX. The statement closing date for that cycle was XX/XX/XXXX. However, I received my bill for XX/XX/XXXX and the payment for {$190.00} was not on the bill. It was collected by AMEX though on XX/XX/XXXX. There appears to be a few days between the actual closing date of XX/XX/XXXX and the date payments are made. I received a late fee on my XX/XX/XXXX statement and FINALLY my payment of {$190.00} shows up in that statement with a closing date of XX/XX/XXXX. So my payment cleared on XX/XX/XXXX was not applied to either XXXX or XXXX, but then shows up in a statement on XX/XX/XXXX AFTER a late fee was applied. I called customer service to find out why a payment made in early XXXX was not applied until a XXXX bill and why I got a late fee then. The customer service agent reversed my late fee and said she would file a complaint with how billing is done. I would like to formally file a complaint with billing. It is deceitful and confusing to customers to not apply a payment for the next billing cycle, but apply a late fee. Had I not caught the problem and try to reach out for answers on how this happened, I would have had a negative billing late fee on my account and no answers on the delayed payment.
