Consumer Narrative
I have multiple checking accounts with Chase. One of which went into overdraft and was subsequently charged off. Numerous overdraft fee charges were incurred over the Covid time period which pushed this account into overdraft. This account has me as primary with my adult daughter as secondary. She did not take action quickly or definitively with the bank to get relief from the overdraft charges. She was embarrassed to be behind while trying to manage the situation. However, Chase closed this account without notifying me ( as primary who resides in different address ) despite the overarching relationship that I have with the bank. When I inquired around XX/XX/XXXX upon noticing the account was closed, I was told that it was too late to adjust a charged off account. Additionally, all prior history of the account including electronic statements has been removed from my profile. When asking Chase for relief, they refused to review the prior history and overdraft fees. Had the fees been waived, consistently and equitably across all consumer accounts during Covid ( instead of wait until they call approach ), this situation would have been avoided, and there would be a positive balance of over several XXXX dollars. Also, in conversations with Chase through XX/XX/XXXX, they finally did send me the XXXX but not XXXX bank statements. Just in XXXX they charged {$340.00} of overdraft fees of which {$200.00} occurred in XXXX and XXXX. I was not able to look at XXXX despite 3 requests to provide me the statements for XXXX, XXXX and XXXX ( over the Covid period ). Also, the collection department requested that I pay from an existing deposit account to cover {$58.00} written off, which I initially was agreeing to, however, in the call the representation asked me to confirm the withdrawal which I did not agree to. Because he stated this could be escalated, I opted for the escalation. Because Chase will not address holistically, I am reaching out to both the OCC and CFPB to exam the collection practices to 1 ) eliminate any write-off/collection and reimburse me for the {$58.00} withdrawn without my consent OR provide COMPLETE transcripts of all phone calls with the bank showing my agreement when the rep asked to confirm the withdraw at which time I did not reaffirm, 2 ) get copies of the last three years of activity for this account ( specifically for XXXX ), and 3 ) OCC and CFPB review the account for XXXX and reimbursement of excessive overdraft fees which is fair and equitable during the Covid period and which should have been consistent applied once the customer realizes and escalates to the bank. Had I been more aware of their deceptive practices, I would have escalated myself rather than assume they were doing the right thing and working with my daughter directly. Thank you for your assistance.
