Several Rocket Mortgage employees called me and left voicemails over several days. I had previously requested that I be removed from their sales list, so called back thinking there might be an issue with my mortgage. The salesperson I spoke with asked me several questions about my home situation ; throughout our conversation, I was clear that I had no interest in making any changes to my mortgage. The salesperson then stated that he was going to take a look at my credit to make sure everything was in line and asked me if the last four of my social were XXXX. I confirmed that the numbers were correct, and which point he immediately left the call and put me on hold - before I could ask what he meant by taking a look at my credit or why he would need to do so. I absolutely did not understand that he was going to make a hard inquiry into my credit. He did not use the words " mortgage inquiry '' or " hard inquiry. '' When the salesperson ( who referred himself as a " banker '' ) returned to the call, I asked him if he had just executed a hard pull on my credit report and he assured me that it was " no big deal. '' Unsurprisingly, my credit score was in fact negatively impacted by his action. I later contacted Rocket Mortgage to ask that the inquiry be removed from my credit report and they said they could not remove it because I consented to the credit pull by confirming the last four of my social. Again, I did not understand that the salesperson was asking for my consent to create a hard inquiry into my credit and had made clear that I had absolutely no interest in any new mortgage product.
