I purchased a refrigerator at a Best Buy store for {$2100.00} and in the process was offered a Best Buy/Citi credit card. I was told by the sales rep that the card offered 10 % cash back and a 0 % introductory interest rate. I agreed to apply for the card, but, as I was completing the transaction and application, a manager showed up to assist the sales rep and said that actually the card offered 10 % cash back OR a 0 % introductory interest rate. I was a little frustrated but proceeded to open the card and chose 10 % cash back. At no time was I provided a brochure with the terms of the card. When the card arrived in the mail, I registered the card online and discovered that the actual rewards were 5 % back in Best Buy reward certificates that could only be used in store or online. Because of my significant purchase, I was expecting {$210.00} in cash rewards but instead received what was actually a {$95.00} Best Buy certificate ( online account indicates that rewards accrue in increments of {$5.00} and I guess the calculation for the points excludes tax, but I am unsure ). Misrepresenting terms to customers to sell credit cards is plain wrong. I closed the card but am out the expected cash rewards and have had my credit score impacted.
