I went to XXXX today XX/XX/2022 at XXXX XXXX XXXX, XXXX, XXXX XXXX and presented my XXXX rewards card upon check out along with my Citi credit card. The clerk told me that I had a rewards balance and asked if I wanted to use {$10.00} towards the purchase amount of {$29.00}. I said " yes '', not sure if I clicked on the screen, but without my reading glasses I would not have been able to review the fine print anyways. Citi subsequently sent me an email saying that i had just redeemed XXXX points which is particular unfavorable at {$10.00} XXXX points or a 0.8 %. Meanwhile advertise 2 % cash back " Earn 2 % on purchases with 1 % cash back when you buy, plus an additional 1 % as you pay for those purchases. XXXX X XXXXXX XXXX Called Citi to complain and they said they could not do anything. My only recourse was to return to the store to process a refund. I called XXXX, and the rep had no idea what I was talking about. Transfers to their credit department, and said they did not have a way to opt me out. I drove back to the store, processed a refund, and brought my reading glasses to see that the screen indeed to me " Citi ThankYou '' points. I find it deceiving that XXXX present you with so many screens at check out. Some are mandatory like confirming your phone number. Some they try to upcharge you to fund their tax exemptions. Now I also have to read the fine print to ensure that they charge me in points instead of dollars.
