On XX/XX/2022, at around XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX, I received a cold call from, what I would learn later, was 'Aidvantage XXXX, the company servicing federal student loans. My phone 's caller ID identified the call as being 'XXXX ' ( the company formerly servicing federal student loan repayment ). When I answered, I was transferred to a caller who attempted to tell me about the deadline on federal student loan payment deferment and options for income-based repayment when the deferment deadline lifted. This was all fine. However, the caller attempted to ask me to verify information including my address, email address, and phone number. First, several of those items were out of date ( I had long since changed them in the federal student loan repayment portal ). Second, I am unsure why they would solicit that information over the phone rather than directing me to the federal government 's repayment portal. The substance of my complain though is about misrepresentation. The person on the call, falsely or truthfully, believed himself to represent the Department of Education. He had no explanation for why the Caller ID labeled the call as being from XXXX. Nor did it seem odd to him that he ALSO stated that he worked for AidVantage, which is a private company working with the DOE. I think AidVantage is training their employees to misrepresent themselves and irresponsibly draw them into loan servicing schemes that they may not need or want under the guise of representing the DOE. Note : I will also be submitting this complaint to the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX
