Consumer Narrative

Hello. I have worked in public service for 9 years. I have been paying on and off over those 9 years. When I decided to go back to school I called the loan servicer XXXX at the time to ask what my options were. I wanted to pay but I couldnt afford the high payment plus paying for school. I was told all or nothing for payments. A hardship would be best or to be in school part time. On top of that I was also told that when in school your loans go to deferment / school forbearance, Those payments would not count towards any forgiveness so its best to just not pay because I would be giving away free money towards a loan. Just wait I wanted to be on pslf and I didnt even have a pslf form filled out. I was told based on my form to verify employment and pay stubs that is all I needed. Sadly this information I was told years ago was and is all wrong. I was on a standard payment plan if some sort making large payments when I could have been on a more affordable one. Im so hurt by this and I know Im not the only one. I wish there was a way to recalculate my payments based on my income at the time and be able to pay these. Now years later I make more money than 9 years ago and my payment is almost the same or less because Im on the right plan. This has to stop people need to be helped out of load not misguided. Forbearance and school should count and should have a set payment of zero. You dont know what you dont know. People want to be out of school Loan debt not in it for a lifetime. I cant even see anything on my loans since they were sold.
