Consumer Portfolio Services hired an attorney, XXXX XXXX XXXX, to collect on an auto loan that had a remaining balance after the car was totaled. I paid the balance as agreed almost 2 months ago. Consumer Portfolio continues to report to the bureaus that I owe a balance of {$4800.00} when the balance is paid in full ( I paid {$6500.00} via wire to their attorneys- this included a host of unfair fees as well ). When I called Consumer Portfolio, they are refusing to update my bureau because their attorneys that THEY hired to represent them has not sent the funds to them yet. I've spoken with 3 people at Consumer Portfolio and 1 person at XXXX XXXX XXXX. They're all saying my report will not be updated until the attorneys send the money to the client. My question is, what if their attorneys decide never to send the money or files bankruptcy? XXXX XXXX at Consumer Portfolio responded " I can't answer that ''. This is unfair and unacceptable. They are reporting incorrect information to all 3 bureaus which is impacting my ability to obtain credit. They've updated the report with the wrong info twice since receiving payment.
