I opened an account with Citibank in XXXX of 2021, specifically to take advantage of a promotion ( XXXX ) they had in which you would receive a {$300.00} bonus for depositing $ XXXX in a checking account and maintaining that balance for at least 60 days. I opened my account over the phone via a Citibank representative and clearly told them the reason I was opening the account was for the bonus. She opened my checking account and my initial deposit of {$15000.00} was deposited on XX/XX/2021, within the XXXX deposit period stipulated by their conditions. After not receiving the {$300.00} bonus after the XXXX period, I called Citibank and they told me I had to wait another 90 days for it to process but that my account was showing that the bonus would be applied. I called back XXXX more times before the 90 days just to check in and each time the representative told me that my bonus would be applied and that I just needed to wait. XXXX rolled around and I called twice since it had been over 6 months since my initial deposit. The first representative told me the bonus should have been applied already and couldn't give a clear answer on why it hadn't. She told me she would send the case to a supervisor and that I should receive an email or correspondence within 7 days. Within the week I got a letter stating that I did not qualify because the " linked savings account was not opened within the stated timeframe. '' I have several issues with this : XXXX. I specifically opened the account with the intention of receiving the bonus and I did it over the phone with XXXX of their representatives. If a savings account was required, she should have been able to open that for me at the same time. XXXX. Their promotion also specifically says " earn a cash bonus... when you open an eligible checking account and complete required activities. '' There is no mention of opening a savings account on all of their promotion brochures, etc... If there is a savings account stipulation mentioned it is hidden in their fine print. XXXX. I was told multiple times by Citibank representatives that I qualified for the bonus and that it would be applied to my account with time. I waited over six months from the time I opened the account and then they ended up sending a denial letter. I can provide more details if necessary and if Citibank actually records their calls they have multiple conversations recorded of their representatives saying the bonus should have been applied.
