The primary problem is as follows : Today, XXXX XXXX, 2021, I tried to close a Citi Card ( American Airlines Advantage ) card. 1. I called the phone number on the credit card statement and forced my way through endless menus. When I finally reached the option I wanted - i.e., to cancel the card- the phone system immediately hung up. 2. I redialed the same phone number and again forced my way through the menu. Once I reached the option to cancel the card, the phone system immediately hung up. 3. I called the General Support & Servicing phone number in my portal. When I finally ( forcibly ) reached an option to cancel the card, the phone system immediately hung up. 4. I called the Apply for a Card phone number in my portal in an attempt to reach a person. The phone system asked for my social security number ( SSN ), which I refused to provide. My SSN would link me immediately to my active card. I never could reach an actual person. The secondary issue, which I did not address right away, is that I never authorized Citi Cards to update my card to Platinum Select. I never activated the card they sent to me in the mail. Your help would be most appreciated to cancel this card. I am appalled that a company such as Citi Cards would exercise such practices. Thank you, XXXX XXXX
