I was issued a prepaid XXXX debit card by the New York State Department of labor during the pandemic as an essential worker. I only used it to withdraw cash from one particular ATM, the XXXX XXXX, XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX branch, because it did not charge any transaction fees. I was shifting my residence in the last week of XXXX. So, I did not go to the bank. I went to withdraw money on XX/XX/XXXX and noticed a depleted balance. I got suspicious and went online to look at the transactions. To my shock I found 5 fraudulent withdrawals from ATMs of banks, that I never visited in my life. Not once did i leave my debit card unattended, nor did i use it for any online or brick and mortar shopping. I immediately reported it to the debit card company. They send me a dispute form and the list of fraudulent withdrawals and told me to contact the police to file a report. When I visited the nearest police station, they insisted on having an affidavit to even take a complaint. They also asked me whether I was using a XXXX phone. When I replied positively, they said that XXXX XXXX phones were hacked and data was stolen.I plan to download an affidavit form and get it notarized and visit the police station again
