Consumer Narrative
Hello, I have a major complaint/issue that I need help resolving. I will start from the very beginning. My dad passed away last XXXX ( 2021 ). His life insurance policy paid him out {$190000.00}. My mom was the beneficiary. My mom gave me {$70000.00}. I put {$40000.00} into the Citibank savings account. I then added {$8000.00} from my personal checking with XXXX. Then I added {$5000.00} from the same account. Well, when I added the {$5000.00} from XXXX, that was the week they changed over to XXXX bank. So account numbers changed. The deposit was denied. I wasn't sure if that was the reason why the transaction was denied, but that's the only logical reason I can think of. But something odd occured, the money got put back into my XXXX account, as it should, but my balance in my Citibank account reflected that the {$5000.00} was in fact deposited. I figured after a few days it would get deducted, as it should. It stayed there for about XXXX weeks. This was clearly a bank error. Then this week, they sent me a letter in the mail saying that my account is being closed due to fraudulent activity with the mention of the {$5000.00} deposit that was denied. That was the only thing mentioned. My account has been blocked for about XXXX days and I have no access to my money. I have spent hours and hours on hold with citibank, and transferred around with different people because nobody has any idea what they are talking about. Nobody could tell me why my account was flagged for " fraudulent activity ''. I finally got to talk to someone yesterday who gave me some information. He didn't tell me the reason it was being flagged, but he did tell me this. My money has been transferred to the federal government because it has been determined by the fraud department at Citibank that the money is not mine. My money isn't even with Citibank anymore, it is with the federal government apparently. Nobody has contacted me to get more information, or proof that it is my money. Nobody has investigated. They just snatched the money out of my account with no explanation. I have spoken to numerous people from citibank and nobody can point me in the right direction, they just told me to hire a lawyer. I filed a police report in XXXX XXXX, Michigan, a complaint to the FDIC, and a complaint to the comptroller of the currency. I have the XXXX XXXX of where the money came from and how it is most definitely my money. Please help me get my {$48000.00} back. Thank you, XXXX XXXX
