Citibank sent me a letter in approximately XX/XX/2021 saying that I had to answer a series of invasive and personal questions about my assets and liabilities that had nothing to do with my Citibank accounts, in order to follow Federal Law. They threatened to block my accounts- checking accounts I have had with them with zero issues for 20 years- if I did not comply. On XX/XX/2021 I had a long and extensive conversation with a Citibank representative answering all of their questions, even though I didn't think any of it was any of their business. There was one question I couldn't answer - they asked for the details of a specific transfer I'd received from another bank account of mine, but they didn't have the date of the transfer, only the amount, so I didn't know what it was for. They said if they still needed that information after reviewing the case they would call back with the date of the transfer so I could explain it, but if I didn't hear back to assume everything was complete. I never heard anything again. I received no further communication from them - not by mail, email, or phone- on this issue. And then on XX/XX/XXXX I discovered that my accounts had been completely blocked. WITH NO WARNING I was cut off from all of my funds. I called immediately and was forced to answer additional questions before they would remove the block two hours later. The block is now removed, and I will be closing my Citibank account, but this was a completely egregious mistake and I want this complaint filed so that if other people also experience this some action can be taken.
