Consumer Narrative
I am troubled and upset by recent actions taken by Bank of America 's subsidiary Merrill Lynch. The first was a XX/XX/2021 email notice from Merrill Lynch under the subject, Action Needed : Please call us as soon as possible to confirm or update your Merrill Lynch Account Information. Warry that the telephone number could lead to risk of fraud, I logged in to my Merrill Lynch account. I was astounded an upset that I was forced to update my account before actually being able to enter the account. Proceeding through the long laundry list of information that I was forced to supply in order to get past the update roadblock I grew more and more upset by the information being asked for. None of the information required was essential or beneficial to my interaction with Merrill Lynch. All of the information required is beneficial only to Merrill Lynch employees who might choose to use it to attempt to do more business with me or make more profit off of my account. Ive now wasted an hour of my time providing information that is in no way beneficial to me and can be used by Merrill Lynch and Bank of America in a way that is detrimental to me. This forced action by Merrill Lynch and Bank of America reminds me of the actions taken by XXXX XXXX XXXX over a period of years that were not in their customers best interest. I no longer trust Merrill Lynch or Bank of America as I have in the past. This forced siphoning of information from me seems unethical and perhaps even illegal. I believe the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau should investigate this inappropriate and forced fishing expedition for information.
