I was contacted by XXXX XXXX XXXX, they told me that I owed a credit card debt that if not paid in full would go on my credit report. They threatened to take me to court for the balance owed and also sue me for lawyer and court fees. They told me I owed {$7400.00}. When I told them I could not give them the money because I was preparing to buy a home, they threatened my credit and told me I would not be able to buy my home with this debt hanging over my head. I was frightened into giving them {$7000.00}, which was almost everything I had saved. After I had authorized the payment she ( identified herself as XXXX XXXX ) told me that the debt they were collecting was from XXXX years ago. Immediately after making the payment I did some research and realized my mistake. Within XXXX minutes of authorizing the payment, I got on the phone with my bank, fraud prevention services and card member services to stop the payment. I pleaded with them not to release the funds. They put the payment on hold until XXXX, after which they released the money to XXXX. That very same day I went to my bank ( XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ) and filed a dispute. After a week, I called card member services to check on the status of my dispute and they informed me that they had contacted VISA about the charge and they said they had to release the funds because I had originally approved the transaction. On XXXX, I contacted XXXX XXXX firm XXXX in an attempt to sue the company for my money back, after some research into the company they informed me that this company was not licensed to collect debt in the state of California and that because they have never been sued before, there was nothing they could do to assist me.
