I applied for a Southwest Rapid Rewards Visa through Chase Bank. I applied because, even though there is a {$69.00} annual fee, there was a promotion providing {$200.00} statement credit on the first flight purchased and I was in the middle of booking tickets to see my grandson for his birthday. I applied, got approved, and the pop-up advised that the card was linked to my Southwest account for immediate use. The card information was present, but the purchase was continuously declined because I was missing information. The Southwest account identified that the 3 digit security code from the back of the card was missing. After numerous attempts to contact Southwest and Chase, I was ultimately transferred to Chase from Southwest customer service. Chase advised that my only option is to wait 7-10 business days for the card, to then make the purchase, at which time the fares would change, or use a different card, which would negate the reason for applying and result in a loss of the statement credit. I requested for the card to be expedited. Representative XXXX advised that Chase does not expedite credit card issuance, contrary to what research suggests. XXXX advised that the only assistance that could be provided is to close the account or wait for issuance. I elected to close the account, but as this is a known Chase/Southwest issue , dating back over 4 years, this should be investigated, as I and others view this as a bait-and-switch tactic.
