Consumer Narrative
On XX/XX/XXXX, I purchased a mattress from Mattress Firm located at XXXX XXXX XXXX in XXXX, TX ( Store # XXXX ). I paid for this purchase in full, using my Visa credit card. I merely asked the sales representative, XXXX XXXX, if they offered any zero interest financing for the purchase and what the length of repayment would be if I were to decide to finance. He told me he would need to check what offers are available, and he asked for my social security number. After a few minutes at his computer, he tells me that they are offering 6 months No Interest if Paid in Full within 6 months. I replied that I'd rather just pay for the mattress in full that day, instead. At no point in our conversation were the words, " credit card, '' " application, '' nor " line of credit '' EVER mentioned, and I thought no more of the subject. Five weeks later, on XX/XX/XXXX, I was surprised and confused to find a welcome email from Mattress Firm congratulating me on my new Mattress Firm Synchrony HOME Credit Card. After then receiving a credit card in the mail from Mattress Firm & Synchrony Bank, I decided to go into the store to speak with XXXX XXXX as to why I would have been signed up for a credit card with Mattress Firm, against my wishes, knowledge, and permission. He claimed it must have been miscommunication, which is flatly false. Why would I want to apply for a store credit card with a monthly credit limit of {$6000.00}, when I had already purchased a {$3000.00} mattress -- something I only repurchase once every decade? At that point I asked him what he and his company would do to correct the error. He told me that nothing could be done, and instead recommended that I just close the credit card. This fraudulently opened credit card account has already negatively impacted my credit score, and I have absolutely no use for it. I never, at any time, authorized, signed for, nor agreed to open a new credit card at Mattress Firm on a whim. In fact the last time I applied for a new credit card was 5 years ago, and only came after careful deliberation, extensive research, and very clear and explicit authorization to open the account.
