Consumer Narrative

I just waited roughly 15 minutes to get a representative on the phone at BoA. I typically have long wait times, numerous irrelevant recorded messages I am subjected to that prevent me from reaching a representative and enable BoA to avoid dealing with issues for the card. This is the second time I have tried to call someone there to block XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX from charging my card, this year. The representative I reached, who had a XXXX XXXX accent, refused to take any information I told her. I told BoA last year to block all attempts by XXXX to charge my card for an unwanted membership renewal and was told that it would. But it has not and it is inordinately difficult to reach anyone who will stop these unauthorized, computerized charges to my card. Neither XXXX, nor BoA will stop the charges. XXXX is in bankruptcy and is trying to gouge whatever money it can from its one-time customers and BoA is complicit in the effort. BoA is unduly burdening its customers to stop unauthorized charges. It should have done what it said it would do last year when I called about the problem : block XXXX from doing the same thing again. Please impose more serious, actually effective, sanctions than you have to date to sanction BoA and, if needed, credit card processors, who are abusing my credit card. It is probably the case that millions of people are being scammed by credit card processors, banks and others who think they can automatically condone and renew memberships for whatever the XXXX they think they can get away with. The default needs to be that no membership for loyalty should be allowed to renew unless a credit card holder specifically requests it. This should apply to all loyalty programs, including, in particular, XXXX. As things stand, everyone thinks they can automatically renew unwanted services and this predation should absolutely be prohibited at all times, but especially during the covid-19 pandemic and its immediate aftermath.
