Consumer Narrative
On XX/XX/21, my husband and I deposited {$1000.00} cash into a XXXX IL Chase ATM. It said it couldn't read {$200.00} of it and returned the bills. He hit the " deposit more '' button in an attempt to reinsert the bills. At this point, the whole ATM froze for about 2 minutes. Then a message popped up, something along the lines of " please call this number to make sure your deposit went through ''. The number disappeared off the screen before I could even get my phone out. The machine did not issue me a receipt. Turns out the deposit did not go through so I filed a claim and they issued me a temporary credit of {$800.00} for the missing money. My relief was short lived, on XX/XX/21 I received a notice letting me know the claim has been denied because when the ATM was emptied and counted " there were no overages nor error messages put out that day ''. They simply can not find my money and they'll be revoking my {$800.00} credit on XX/XX/21. I spoke to 2 representatives and 2 supervisors who all told me they could not help me further. They spoke to me as if I'm lying about my deposit. One supervisor said " I don't know I guess the machines just glitch sometimes ''. My husband and I are on camera depositing the money into the machine but no one will check the cameras. When I inquired to that specific branch about checking the cameras, they referred me to the claims department and said they have nothing to do with the outside ATMs. When inquiring to the claims department, they stated they have no ability to check the cameras either and referred me right back to the Chase branch. Somewhere in the mix, someone from Chase suggested I make a police report and have the police pull the cameras. I went to the XXXX IL police station and they refused to make a report because " it's a civil matter ''. This is an incredibly frustrating situation. {$800.00} is a lot of money for us and now it's going to accrue overdraft fees as well, since we can't cover the credit they're revoking. We desperately needed the cash we were depositing to fill the hole in our account from emergency vet bills. As someone who has banked with Chase for the past 8 years, I should be treated like a valued customer but that is the opposite of what has happened here. I do have notices from Chase including documentation of the claim, phone calls to the claims department and a screenshot of my mobile banking app showing the {$200.00} deposit that went through and the absence of my {$800.00}. They are attached.
