Consumer Narrative
On XX/XX/2020 my wife and I were victims of a fraudulent transaction. We are senior citizens and we both attended a presentation in XXXX XXXX, Florida by XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. As a result of fear and high pressure tactics over more than 3 hours, we were forced to sign a contract in the amount of {$17000.00} to exit 2 timeshares for which we had originally paid {$15000.00}. The transaction included charging {$3000.00} to an existing Chase credit card in my wife 's name, and then opening 2 new credit cards of {$7300.00} each with XXXX XXXX XXXX and Chase in my my husbands name, for a total of {$17000.00}. The premise was that our children would be liable for thousands of dollars of maintenance fees which would be taken from their estate after we were deceased. We were assured that the entire process consisted of sending a form letter to the timeshare companies to which they were legally obliged to respond, and that the entire process should only take about 90 days. In the event of a rare problem, it might take up to a year, but they were offering us a money-back guarantee. We signed the enclosed documents, and I began following up monthly at the Call Center telephone number at XXXX XXXX XXXX that they had given us. Each time I was told that the timeshare companies had not responded to their letters. In XXXX, I called 3 times and could not get any reply so I became alarmed. I then began a XXXX search and discovered that Consumer Law Protection was part of number of timeshare exit companies being sued by the Attorney General of Missouri for fraud, including XXXX XXXX XXXX. Both XXXX XXXX XXXX and XXXX transfer Group share the same address, and instructions from XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX were to mail all documents to XXXX XXXX XXXX I then opened disputes with the 3 credit cards. XXXX XXXX XXXX resolved the dispute in my favor within a month and refunded to me {$7300.00}. Chase did not. After 4 months our 2 disputes with Chase were denied with no explanation. I have once again contacted CFPB for further resolution of this matter. Enclosed please find a copy of our contract, a news report showing that the Missouri Attorney General is suing XXXX XXXX XXXX ( among others ) for fraud, and a letter from the Missouri Attorney General referring our complaint to the Enforcement Unit for action. The XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX and its affiliates, XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX and XXXX XXXX XXXX are part of a criminal racketeering enterprise which has defrauded hundreds of seniors of their lifetime savings. I am demanding that Chase refund our money immediately and that the Florida Attorney General prosecute Consumer Law Protection for fraud. Since XX/XX/2020 we have received no communication from XXXX XXXX XXXX of any actions taken by them to resolve this issue, including documentation of escrow funds ( as required by law ) nor any correspondence to and from the timeshare companies. I am also reporting them to the FBI for prosecution of interstate fraud and to the US Postal Service for mail fraud, since all documents were sent via US mail.
