Consumer Narrative

On XX/XX/2021, my employer received a call on my behalf from IQ Data International, during this phone they stated they were attempting to collect a debt, and explained the alleged debt owed, I explained that I was not sure I owed the debt and even if I did, I wouldnt have the finances to pay it right now. At that point the representative stated if I did not find a way to pay this, he knew where I worked, and could make life very difficult for me as I am in the military, I asked him if he was threatening me and he stated he was just letting me know what he could do. I told him I wanted to work this out, at that point he said hed get someone else on the line. He then transferred the call to his manager. When she got on the phone she started yelling immediately, I told her she was contacting me on a goverment line and needed to contact me on my personal phone from now on, she then stated good now that I know you work in the government I will contact all of your higher ups and keep calling your job until its paid. She then started giving me payment options, at this point I had to return to work so I told them Id call back. At lunch I called back to try to discuss getting a debt validation letter, and he said he couldnt do that but could go over the charges with me and started going through them. I told him I dont have money for this debt and I cant pay it if I dont know I owe it. And he told me I needed to use a family members credit card, or max out my cards, or do whatever it takes to pay this, otherwise hed put this on my credit and it would make life very hard for me. I told him Id need time to figure something out. I later called them back, after consulting with an attorney. And asked XXXX XXXX with IQ, if he could please just send me a debt validation letter. And he began asking me why, said he could go over all the charges with me, said it was wasting time, and asked if I would agree to pay the debt if he sent a letter. I said no because Im unsure I owe the debt, and would like to verify it. At this point he said he was done dealing with me and was sending it to collections so I needed to speak with his manager. She came back on the line and asked why I wanted a debt validation letter, I stated it was because it was my right, and I wanted to make this work but idk if I actually owe it, at this point she started screaming and saying I was stalling, I was being as polite as possible and she just kept yelling about how I wasted her time and she was putting this in my credit immediately and now I wont be able to buy a house and shed make sure my job knew about it. I requested all communications be in writing and through me, and she said no shed be calling them today. I recorded the entire call, and have detailed proof of their threats and refusal to validate the debt and send communications in writing and cease contacting my employer. The file is larger than 10 mb, and will not let me upload, but I am happy to email it.
