I am filing a complaint regarding a fraudulent transaction on a XXXX prepaid gift card purchased from XXXX and issued/managed by GiftCardMall ( Blackhawk Network ) . I purchased a {$200.00} XXXX gift card from XXXX in XX/XX/XXXX. The card was shipped to me and remained unused while I saved it for a planned trip in XX/XX/XXXX. When I received the card, the magnetic strip was damaged during opening, and I attempted to contact customer service regarding replacement, but no resolution was provided. I ultimately activated the card on XX/XX/XXXX. On XX/XX/XXXX, just XXXX days after activation, a fraudulent charge of {$190.00} was made to a merchant listed as XXXX XXXX. I did not authorize this transaction, did not use the card myself, and had no knowledge of the charge at the time. The card was effectively drained immediately after activation. Because I was saving the card for a future trip, I did not check the balance until XX/XX/XXXX. Upon discovering the unauthorized charge, I immediately reported the fraud and submitted a dispute through GiftCardMalls website. My dispute was denied the next day, today, solely because it was reported outside their stated XXXX window ( reported approximately XXXX days after the transaction ), despite the fact that the fraud occurred almost immediately after activation and before any legitimate use. I believe this card was compromised prior to or during distribution, as the fraudulent transaction occurred only XXXX days after activation. I acted in good faith, reported the issue promptly upon discovery, and never benefited from the funds. I am requesting assistance with escalation and a review of this matter for a goodwill refund or replacement, as I was the victim of fraud and lost the full value of the card which was a lot of money for me to lose.
