Consumer Narrative
I have been a member of Bank of America since XXXX and have never had any issues. I have not been active on it for a long time but have kept a minimum balance of {$5000.00} total in both my checking and savings account to maintain the daily needed balance so I would not get charged. Since I am not active on it, I have not needed to look at my bank statements. In XX/XX/XXXX, I went into the branch with my dad to have his savings account linked to my savings account. At this time, I was not informed that my checking account would be unlinked from my savings. I was not told in person or in any email or letter correspondence. I thought my two accounts would still be linked, but now my savings would be together with my dad 's XXXX who is a XXXX XXXX member and has all his fees waived. I signed into my account in XX/XX/XXXX and discovered that I had been charged {$25.00} each month in XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX for having insufficient funds. I called customer service and they told me that I should not have been charged because I am an XXXX XXXX member, which is a XXXX program that previously was able to waive my fees. The rep was able to reverse two months of charges, XXXX and XXXX. The phone rep also was able to link my checking and savings account back together and told me that I should not have any future problems. However, that same day I was charged again {$25.00} for the same problem. I went into the Bank of America branch to try to get this issue fixed and they were unable to reverse the charge for me, even though they also validated that I really should not have been getting charged due to the banking level I had been in all this time that waives such fees. They told me I should have gotten a notice that the terms have changed recently, and my Advantage Tier was now a different program that required a higher daily limit, but I did not. I made sure to put enough money into my checking ( {$5000.00} like usual ) but then I was charged {$25.00} again XX/XX/XXXX. I went into the branch on XX/XX/XXXX and they told me that I could have had my checking and savings both linked to my dad 's account and this could have been prevented. I asked why I was not informed of that initially and they could not answer me. I also found out just yesterday that linking my checking and savings account did not do anything in regard to meeting the requirements to waive the fees, however, I was told differently previously by the customer service representative over the phone. Again, we tried to reverse the fee, but I was declined through email. Lastly, I have been trying to change my bank type so I can no longer deal with this problem, and the bank representative was also unable to do that and thinks it is because I have a very old account type. Never in the past XXXX years have I had to deal with this nonsense, and I have always had the minimum amount necessary, which goes to show that Bank of America changed my banking terms without my knowledge then misinformed me about how to solve the problem. I have wasted over XXXX hours inside the bank and over the phone trying to fix this issue.
