I held two Citi XXXX XXXX credit cards, both opened in XX/XX/year>. Each account was charged a {$590.00} annual fee at opening. On XX/XX/year>, Citi closed both accounts without any prior notice or clear explanation. I contacted Citi customer service and was told that no refund of the annual fees would be provided, even though the accounts were open for less than three months. This means Citi has retained nearly {$1200.00} in annual fees for accounts that are now terminated and can not be used, providing me with no value for the remaining nine months of the fee period. In addition, one of the closed cards ending in XXXX included a {$200.00} XXXX XXXX benefit that could be used for eligible purchases such as Best Buy. I made a qualifying Best Buy purchase on XX/XX/year> XXXX day before the account was closed but the {$200.00} credit was never applied. I understand that Citi may choose to close my accounts, but it is unfair and unreasonable to ( 1 ) keep a full years annual fee when the account was active for only about two months, and ( 2 ) deny a benefit that I rightfully earned through a purchase made before closure. Citi representatives have been dismissive and unwilling to offer any explanation or refund. I am submitting this complaint because I believe Citis actions are inconsistent with fair billing practices and good-faith consumer treatment.
