Consumer Narrative
I received an XXXX as a result of a class action suit against XXXX user privacy, in the amount of {$27.00}, which did not require activation. I attempted to make a purchase at a XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX, and the transaction was declined. Right after, I attempted to pay a bill online, for XXXX, and that was also declined. I realize that I had entered the wrong expiration date, so I tried again with all the correct information and it was still declined. After not being able to use the card, I called the XXXX number for customer service. I was informed that the card was blocked. The representative went over the transactions with me and stated that I would be getting a replacement virtual card within XXXX hours. Instead of getting the replacement card I received a phone call. The caller ID said XXXX XXXX XXXX, but supposedly it was the credit card company. When I spoke to the person on the phone, they stated that documentation is required in order to receive the replacement virtual card. The rep stated that I would be receiving an email detailing the types of documentation they needed in order to process my request. The email I received was from XXXX XXXX, and they were requesting a photo ID, a utility bill, in a bank statement. I could not understand why they needed all of that information to issue a replacement virtual card considering the fact that I was not doing business with them directly in the first place, and I received the virtual card from the settlement administrator. This is what caused me to believe that there must be some type of fraudulent activity going on. When I did not submit the information they were requesting, they sent another email saying that the account was closed and I have XXXX Days To reopen it or it would be closed permanently and I would lose the funds. I contacted the settlement administrator and informed them of the situation.
