My husband and I were purchasing tires from Discount Tires. Upon arrival, my husband was asked to apply for the credit card to receive financing options as well as as a discount. He was not told that the system had my name as the applicant and didnt display it during the application process. So the system used my name with his Social Security number, birthdate and phone number to open an account backed by Synchrony Bank. Not only did the system process it, but it gave him a {$400.00} credit limit. If it werent for the fact that the credit limit was so low, we wouldnt even even understood that there was an issue. He called synchrony Bank to understand why the credit limit was so low when they told him that it was in my name with his credentials. He asked them to update the name ( which they did ), but they couldnt increase the credit limit amount given the circumstances. So now my name is tied to his identity, and we had to have two credit pulls in order to make the purchase. We ended up calling Synchrony Bank and closing this account and ask them to report it to the credit bureau so that we can make sure that theres two identities are separate. This should never have happened where they were able to process an application with one name and give credentials of another name inhabit go through.
