Citibank called to alert me that a credit card application was filed in my name and asked me to verify. I was hesitant to give personal information at that time so I checked my XXXX report and it showed a hard inquiry from Citibank that I didn't initiate. I called XXXX and started a fraud investigation. Later called Citibank and was told that a Citibank Double platinum card was applied for with my name and social security number. Their fraud dept flagged it and reached out to me. After speaking with someone there and told them it wasn't me, they shut it down but couldn't give me any additional information. I have since placed a credit freeze with all 3 bureaus but am very concerned about this happening.
