On XX/XX/year>, I applied for the Citi XXXX XXXX XXXX credit card through the official XXXX website. Throughout the entire application process, the only card shown and described was the XXXX XXXX XXXX. There was no mention whatsoever of the Citi XXXX XXXX card or any alternative product. After submitting the application, I was unexpectedly approved for a different credit card, the Citi XXXX XXXX, which I did not apply for and which was never disclosed to me during the application process. This constitutes an unauthorized product substitution. I immediately contacted Citi the same day to cancel the application and prevent the incorrect card from being opened. I explained that I had applied only for the XXXX card and did not authorize or agree to the XXXX XXXX card. Citis representatives informed me that they could not stop the approval process and that I would need to wait several days before I could request the account be closed. They also stated that they could not prevent the new account or inquiry from being reported to the credit bureaus. This situation is unacceptable and feels deceptive. I did not receive clear disclosure of the actual product I was being approved for, nor did I consent to opening a Citi XXXX XXXX card. I am now at risk of negative impacts to my credit score because of an account I did not intend to open.
