Consumer Narrative

XXXX XXXX XXXX is willfully furnishing and perpetuating false credit data for an account that was settled in full years ago with XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX Relevant facts and dates : Last payment on account : XX/XX/XXXX ( per furnisher reporting ). Account was charged off/ written off in the amount of {$2100.00} ( reported as written-off in XX/XX/XXXX on consumer report ). I settled the account in full with XXXX XXXX XXXX years ago ( documentation available ). Despite settlement, XXXX XXXX XXXX/Mercury continues to report the tradeline as a charge-off / transferred / written-off account and has provided updated reporting as recently as XXXX ( showing new reporting activity ), which is objectively false. Actions taken by me : I provided documentation proving the account was settled in full and requested correction via bureau disputes. I filed disputes with the credit bureaus XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX and included screenshots and settlement proof. I filed a CFPB complaint after furnisher/bureaus failed to correct or delete the inaccurate tradeline. Why this is unlawful and harmful : XXXX XXXX XXXXMercurys continued reporting of an unsettled/charged-off status after full settlement violates multiple provisions of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, including 623 ( a ) ( 1 ) ( A ) ( furnishing inaccurate information ), 623 ( a ) ( 2 ) ( failure to correct or update information after notice ), 607 ( b ) ( failure to follow reasonable procedures to assure maximum possible accuracy ), and 605 ( c ) ( misrepresenting the reporting period ). Continuing to report a charged-off balance and updated XXXX activity after full settlement is effectively re-aging the account and unlawfully extending the negative reporting period. This materially harms my creditworthiness, ability to obtain credit, and causes economic injury.
