Consumer Narrative

Chase just began ( XX/XX/year>? ) charging a fee simply to keep a checking account open. I didn't see any notification, I just noticed a fee. I spoke to them multiple times on the phone. Chase customers now must maintain a minimum daily balance of {$1500.00} or get paid by a specific non-wire ACH direct deposit every month of {$500.00} minimum, or {$5000.00} minimum beginning day balance in order to avoid a {$15.00} fee. My employer used to pay me in check and over the past few years just got used to XXXX. XXXX does not meet Chase 's criteria. Chase reversed the sneaky fee as a one time courtesy when I called and said I had no idea. But my employer is having great difficulty paying me without avoiding fee, even tried with wire because direct deposit was not an option. And then even more fees were incurred on both ends. My employer 's bank ( XXXX XXXX XXXX ) claims lists ACH and wire as the same so it conflicts with Chase 's criteria. It seems this criteria is easy for people with greater income and with official corporate employers. But even with an employer who files taxes properly, this new criteria seems discriminatory against low income employees and employers who can not afford payroll department and service. Chase language from their website : " {$15.00} or $ 0 Monthly Service Fee You can avoid the fee by doing one of the following each monthly statement period : XXXX XXXX deposits made into this account totaling {$500.00} or more, such as payments from payroll providers or government benefit providers, by using ( i ) the ACH network, ( ii ) the Real Time Payment or XXXX XXXX, or ( iii ) third party services that facilitate payments to your debit card using the XXXX or XXXX XXXX, OR a balance at the beginning of each day of {$1500.00} or more in this account, OR an average beginning day balance of {$5000.00} or more in any combination of this account and linked qualifying Chase checking, savings and other balances ''
