I applied for a HELOC with Better Mortgage on or around XX/XX/year>. I was considering multiple providers, and Better Mortgage aggressively pursued me. A salesperson named XXXX aggressively texted & emailed to get me to apply. Through verbal conversations & texts, I was lead to believe through the process that I would be approved for some amount. I communicated I would be open to lower amounts if that made them more comfortable. At no point through these several conversations was it communicated that applications are automatically declined if the house was listed for sale in the last 6 months. I was pushed to drop everything and fill out the application. Better Mortgage gathered my most personal and detailed confidential financial information. SS #, pay stubs, XXXX 's, more & more follow ups for additional information & detail. After everything was in, I get a text from XXXX " XXXX was the house on the market? '' Yes, it was, I was trying to get a high number & was between jobs. I have since secured a good job, and wasnt getting the number so I pulled it. It didnt matter. XXXX said I was automatically declined. If this was a cause for an auto-decline, XXXX should have made clear prior to the application process. Now my credit is hard-hit, some untrustworthy deceitful company has my most personal information, and I do not have the product I was aggressively led to believe I'd receive. Better was not transparent. Better took my personal information in bad faith. I am exploring legal options as well. But the CFPB needs to be aware of these underhanded tactics.
