I am filing this complaint against Goldman Sachs / Marcus for unfair and unreasonable practices involving my savings and certificate of deposit ( CD ) accounts. On XX/XX/year>, Marcus established three new CD accounts for me after withdrawing money from my savings account on three separate occasions. These new CDs were in addition to the two existing CDs I already had with them, which had been established earlier through another bank. That previous bank account has since been closed, as I am now doing business with the bank connected to the new accounts. Goldman Sachs / Marcus had no problem verifying my savings account, withdrawing funds from it, and opening the three new CDs. At no point was I told that further documentation would be required. On XX/XX/year>, I was notified that in order to close one of my CDs, I must send in a copy of my bank statement through the U.S. Mail to prove ownership of the very same account they already verified and withdrew money from. Not only is this requirement unreasonable, but the fact that they will not accept documentation by email or secure electronic upload makes the process even more burdensome and feels like intentional harassment. If the account was valid enough to withdraw funds and open multiple CDs, it should be valid enough to close them. Instead, Goldman Sachs / Marcus is placing unnecessary obstacles in my way and restricting access to my own money.
