Consumer Narrative

I disputed Citis reporting of my CitiCards account because it is being furnished inaccurately and in violation of the FCRA. The account is reported as Closed/Charged-Off, yet at the same time it shows scheduled monthly payments and ongoing balance activity. This is contradictory and misleading under FCRA 607 ( b ) and 611 ( a ). A charged-off account can not also be reported as if it is still open with active payments due. I mailed Citi a formal dispute in writing and also raised the issue with the credit bureaus. Despite this, Citi verified the tradeline without correcting the obvious errors. Later, I received a collection letter from XXXX XXXX XXXX ( XXXX ) attempting to collect the same account, even though Citi had already reported the account as closed. When I challenged XXXX, they eventually backed off, stating they were no longer involved. Instead of addressing my dispute, Citi then sent me a form letter ( dated XX/XX/year> ) claiming they could not locate my account or determine what I was disputing, even though XXXX clearly referenced the correct account number and I provided the same information in my CFPB complaint. This is a deflection tactic, not a meaningful investigation. Citis failure to conduct a proper reinvestigation and furnish accurate Metro 2 data continues to damage my creditworthiness. I am requesting that CFPB require Citi to : 1. Correct the tradeline to reflect its true status ( either \ {$0.00} balance with Transferred/Sold or Closed/Charged-Off without ongoing payments ), or remove the tradeline entirely if Citi can not furnish accurate data . 2. Provide documentation of their reinvestigation, as required by law. Until Citi complies, the reporting remains misleading and harmful.
