Consumer Narrative
I am having trouble making my payments after a divorce and filing XXXX XXXX bankruptcy in XXXX. The bankruptcy was discharged in early XXXX. I am several months behind on my payments and I have reached out to the company several times to get help with a pause in payments or reduced payments, etc. I was told that I could fill out an application but since I originally had a co-signer on the loan in XXXX that I would need their signature and information. That was 18 years ago and I no longer have any access or knowledge of the co-signer so I have been told that there are basically no options and if I don't get the past due amount paid which is now over {$400.00}, they are going to turn it over to a collection agency. I am a single mother in a home with XXXX children and I work as a XXXX. I have attempted to file the paper work to have the loan forgiven with the lender twice with no responses back. The campus I enrolled at before transferring to the XXXX XXXX XXXX was closed ( XXXX, Indiana ). There was high pressure to enroll on the spot when I visited the campus and was told that my program could be done completely online, which after enrolling and obtaining financial aid, it was found that the program could not be completed completely online so I had to transfer to the XXXX XXXX XXXX I also had a borrower defense claim for my federal loans approved earlier this year and all of my federal loans have been dismissed due to issues with XXXX XXXX and UXXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX. This is the only loan that I have not been able to resolve. Additionally when I reviewed my payment status with XXXX it shows that I have paid {$5100.00} in Principle, {$11.00} in Late Fees, and {$4400.00} in Interest for a total of {$9600.00} paid on an original loan of {$3300.00}. XXXX is still saying I owe {$5100.00} in a Principle Balance which would end up being almost {$15000.00} paid total on the loan plus an additional interest. The loan was issued XX/XX/XXXX. I am at a point of wanting to seek legal counsel for predatory loan practices. This loan has been more than paid off for some time over 3 times the amount borrowed. They do not give any sort of repayment options to help lower my payment due to the cosigner issue and my balance due is over {$500.00}. I am at a loss and I don't know what to do. Their messages back to me just keep repeating the same thing and no one is actually offering to help me and I have reached out several times. I don't know how this was not included in my XXXX XXXX Bankruptcy and I do not know why my Borrower Defense claim was approved, but XXXX the original lender of the loan won't even process a loan forgiveness application or provide any reason for denial.
