Im filing a complaint about Citibank regarding a failed balance transfer, poor customer service, and obstructed account closure. I called to initiate a balance transfer, and the representative on the phone confirmed it was successful. A week later, no record of it appeared in my account. When I called back, there was no record of the transaction at all. I was hung up on by one representative, and the next rep told me word for word You cant close your account just because you want to. I had to verify my identity multiple times, and their system is unable to send verification texts to my XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ( the only company Ive had this issue with ), so Im now waiting 710 business days for a physical letter just to close my own account. After I mentioned legal action, the tone changed and they finally began processing the closure. This entire experience has been exhausting, with repeated runarounds and dismissive, heavily scripted offshore phone support. It seems clear Citi is counting on customers giving up rather than standing up for themselves. Im asking for this to be reviewed and for Citi to be held accountable for misleading service and blocking lawful account closure without proper cause. Thank you for your time.
