I recently opened an account at Chase. To transfer my funds from one bank to another, I wrote a check and deposited it on XX/XX/XXXX. This was my first time using a check, so I wrote the check out to Chase instead of myself. I did this because I wasn't sure if I could write the check out to myself, and since I was depositing it at Chase, I didn't think this was an issue. On XX/XX/XXXX, the check was returned and didn't go through. On XX/XX/XXXX, I received an email that I need to contact them to protect myself from fraud, and that if I didn't call, my account might be closed. I called right away, and as I was talking to an associate, I was hung up on. I called back and was put on hold for about 15 minutes and then was asked a couple of questions about the check I deposited. I gave the explanation and answered every question they asked. This led to them telling me that my account was going to be closed, and that I would be unable to open an account at Chase again. I continued to ask if there was a way we could fix this, as there was no fraud, but they told me that there was nothing I could do about it. I'm reaching out because I feel like this was not fair of them, and I understand them maybe closing my account, but not the fact that I can't open an account with them.
